How to Celebrate the Holidays in Philly This Year

12/10/2020

Big family dinners, holiday festivals, beloved local traditions like the Macy’s light show—all of these are going to look quite different this year. But even if your focus is on safety, that doesn’t mean you can’t still find ways to enjoy the sights, sounds and spirit of the holiday season without traveling far from your Crane Chinatown apartment.

One such way to do that is at Founding Footsteps’ Holiday Lights Tour. Founded two years ago, the trolley tour of the city’s best and brightest holiday displays quickly became an instant success—offering a taste of history along with the spirit of the season; to make it even better, the event raises funds for charities, generating more than $15,000 for local nonprofits in its first two years. This year, the tour is set to be a bit different, but still just as jolly!

For 2020, the trolley is only available for private tours, with up to 25 guests in your party, which works out to about $60 per person for a full house. All participants are asked to wear masks when not eating and drinking. Speaking of, the event is BYOB so you can bring along your favorite beer or wine to make the night even more festive, along with snacks, while tour organizers will also provide light bites. As the tour rolls on, enjoy holiday tunes from a live musician on board.

The trolley will roll past Smedley Street and the Miracle on 13th Street in South Philadelphia, two of the city’s most visited and renowned light shows—and you get to see it all from the warmth and safety of the heated trolley! It will also head into Center City for the City Hall tree display and past the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s holiday light exhibition. The tour is approximately two hours and leaves from and returns to The Bourse, one mile from your Crane Chinatown apartment.

So don your ugly Christmas sweater and head out into Philly to enjoy this unique but memorable holiday season!
